It’s playoff time, and you expect hurting and even injured guys to attempt to play. Buffalo’s LeSean McCoy has an injured right ankle suffered in last week’s dramatic playoff clinching win in Miami and it’s a key injury.
He is vital, and we should print VITAL, to the Bills hopes on offense of upsetting the Jaguars.
“Shady” ran for 1,138 yards and 3.98 ypc this season. And, in five of Buffalo’s nine wins, he had at least 75 yards rushing, at least 3.9 per carry (his season average) and scored a total of four of his TDs.
He also ran for 100 yards in a game this season four times, and is clearly the Bills’ best weapon.
Now, to the ankle in question.
We know that by his reaction on the Hard Rock Stadium turf last week that McCoy, who was carted off (above), obviously thought it was a serious injury.
We also know that he was unable to practice this week and whether that was head coach Sean McDermott being cautious or not, and that they intend to tape his ankle and put him out there, we don’t know. And we won’t know until pre game warm ups and once the game begins.
Here’s an interesting item from our colleagues at “the Fantasy Doctors” with Fanrag Sports and Dr. Eric Friedman, who is an emergency room trauma doctor in Baltimore:

In the item, Dr. Friedman, who obviously hasn’t examined and isn’t privy to the severity of the McCoy ankle injury, does give great insight that because McCoy has not been on crutches but rather the walking boot and didn’t even have the boot on Thursday, those are positive signs.
The Bills listed him as “questionable” on Friday afternoon.
We also know that while Buffalo is counting on McCoy, they have burly veteran fullback/running back Mike Tolbert, and a newcomer just activated off their practice squad in Marcus Murphy. Murphy, a former All SEC running back at Mizzou in 2014, took over for McCoy and had 41 yards in Miami last week.
So, will he tape up the right ankle and be effective or is it just gamesmanship and the Bills know McCoy can’t really play very much?
We’re about to find out.
