The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t waste too much time making sure they had their fourth overall pick, RB Leonard Fournette signed before OTAs start. On Wednesday they took care of that business according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Rapoport is also reporting that the deal is four years, with a fifth year as an option. If that option is picked up, every year would be guaranteed in that contract. There are also no offsets. This site had already gone over the rough parameters of what a Fournette deal should look like and as the details emerge, it’s going to be looks like it’s pretty close to that projection, which will be likely at minimum $24 million guaranteed over the terms of the contract.

Just because Fournette is signed does not guarantee that he will be the starting RB for the team to begin the season. Doug Marrone, the coaching staff and even some front office members have stated that Fournette will have to earn his starting role.

Fournette will be competing with TJ Yeldon and Chris Ivory for the majority of the carriers. This competition is likely going to be one of the more closely watched ones in the league. A lot will be riding on that competitions and expectation that the Jaguars offense will be more productive this year. QB Blake Bortles career may hinge on how well these three guys push each other.
