The Jacksonville Jaguars made an under the radar move to close out the week by claiming DB Tracy Howard off waivers from the Cleveland Browns. Howard was picked up by Cleveland after going undrafted in 2016. He had 16 tackles and a pass breakup as well as returning seven kick offs.
Howard is a native of Florida. He attended Miramar High School where he began as a WR with then QB Geno Smith. He switched to DB in high school and was a highly regarded recruit for the University of Miami. After playing for the Canes, he made the Cleveland roster.
In Jacksonville, it looks like Howard will be more of a reserve. With Barry Church and Tashuan Gipson the likely starting safeties, Howard will back them up. Howard played mostly CB at Miami, which will give the Jags some versatility. He also as mentioned above has special teams experience, which will help his chances of making the team’s roster come week 1.
