Intrigue builds around USF RB Marlon Mack at Bulls Pro Day

As we wrote a couple of days ago, the stock of former USF Bulls star running back Marlon Mack is rising, especially with draft analysts and national media. Now, will that translate into him being more than a mid-round selection in the upcoming draft? Who really knows.

We do know this: there were numerous NFL scouts and personnel people at the Bulls complex on Tuesday to see a list of Bulls at different positions at their pro day. This also included Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter.

While Mack did work out, he chose not run the 40 yard dash in the late-March Tampa heat, which was in part, motivated by his good run time at the NFL Scouting combine last month.

Then, when things were concluded, Mack faced the numerous cameras and microphones and an obvious topic:

It doesn’t take a nuclear engineer to put together that the Buccaneers run game is in flux. With Doug Martin suspended for failing a drug test to start the year and the oft injured Charles Sims, not an every down back anyway, Tampa Bay may be looking for a running back in the middle to late rounds of the draft.

This doesn’t mean that they will zero in on Mack more so than others, but it does mean he’s clearly on their radar.

The next step will be individual workouts and interviews with NFL clubs at their facilities over the next few weeks for Marlon and others. We don’t know if the Bucs (who can only have a few of these select workouts) will chose to do so with Mack.

This is because, they clearly have had a great opportunity to study him up close for the last two USF seasons and more importantly, be around him a bunch in this off season leading up to April.

The intrigue of where Marlon Mack ends up continues to build.
