There has been a lot of hype surrounding the prospects of former Florida Gators CB Teez Tabor being a high draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Some draft experts have him as a top 20 caliber prospect. Certainly going into the combine, Tabor was considered one of the elite CBs in a draft deep at the position. Now that we have the results from the combine, it’s safe to say Tabor’s performance was a disappointment.
Tabor ran only a 4.62 40 time, had a 31 inch vertical and a 10 foot broad jump. He also only got 8 reps on the bench press. Certainly no where even close to the leader board at his position for any of the drills. In fact way behind in pretty much every category. For a top 20 caliber talent, it’s safe to say that this may have been one of the most disappointing combine performances this year in Indy.
With all of this said, it does make you wonder if Tabor’s stock is going to take a hit because of the lackluster performance. He may however get the benefit of the doubt. He will get a much more in depth look during Florida’s pro day soon and there is loads of game film for scouts to watch that will keep them intrigued.
It is going to be extremely important that Tabor’s pro day makes everyone forget what went down in Indy. When you have such a deep class at the CB position, the margin of error begins evaporate the closer you get to the draft. In addition, his former teammate and fellow CB Quincy Wilson had a significantly better combine than Tabor. Wilson coming into the combine, wasn’t as highly rated as Tabor, despite being bigger and now we know he’s stronger and faster. Both will showcase their skills at the Florida pro day, and it will be interesting to see how the scouts compare the two CBs.
