Coming into the SEC Championship game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide were heavily favored against the Florida Gators. 24 points to be exact. This game played out pretty much as expected as the Tide rolled over the Gators 54-16.

The Gators came out strong with a nice 64 yard 10 plays that led to a Gators TD, when QB Austin Appleby connected with Antonio Callaway. 7-0 the Gators took the lead, but that’s the only time the Gators would see them up on the scoreboard.

The Tide would kick a field goal on the next drive and then Appleby would throw an INT to Minkah Fitzpatrick who would run it back 44 yards for a pick six. Then the Tide would strike again off a blocked punt return by Joshua Jacobs. On the ensuing extra point, the Gators would block it and David Reese would return it fora a safety, 16-9 with some hope for the Gators.

In the second quarter the Tide would score 17 unanswered point and it looked like this was going to be a blowout going into halftime. The Gators did strike with 19 seconds to go into halftime trailing 33-16,

The third quarter was more of a battle of attrition where neither team for most of the quarter weren’t able to push it in. The Gators had a strong drive, but the Tide stopped them on 4 downs on the 2 yard line. When the possession switched over Alabama went 98 yards to score when Bo Scarbrough punched it in from 2 yards out to pretty much put the game away with the Tide up 40-16.

The game was pretty much exactly how many people expected it to go. Florida would show some fight, but Alabama would just overwhelm them in all aspects of the game. The talent gap between the two teams was clearly on display.

The Tide close out the year 13-0, win their third straight SEC title and 5 out of the last 6. They will be going into the CFB Playoff as the consensus #1 seed and it looks like it could be yet another national title for Nick Saban. The Tide have won 24 straight games between this season and last year.

The Gators close the season 8-4 and will await to see which bowl game they will be heading to.
