Dan Mullen has been a man on a mission since taking over the head coaching position at the University of Florida. Mullen and his staff hit the recruiting trail fast and hard during this cycle and it’s starting to pay dividends.

Florida took on WR transfers Van Jefferson (Ole Miss) and Trevon Grimes (Ohio State) earlier this offseason. Mullen and company were also able to land 4-star quarterback Emory Jones a previous Ohio State Commit. He could come in and compete immediately for the starting job, too.

Over the weekend the Gators continued to build the offense with the commitment from Justin Watkins of Clermont, FL, who’s in everyone’s top 2o national rankings at wide receiver/athlete, to the class.

And, 24/7 sports now ranks the Gators with the 15th ranked class in the nation following the pickup of Watkins.

The Gators also hosted several other players over the weekend including 4-star linebacker Caleb Tannor a former Georgia commit. CB Noah Boykin, is a current Maryland commit, who the Gators a pursuing hard to flip.

DT Nesta Silvera, a current Miami commit, is also being pursued hard by the Gators in a hope to try to flip the two time state champion from American Heritage High School in Plantation, FL, that didn’t sign early.

One thing is clear under this new staff at Florida: they are going to recruit hard and are going to be relentless in their efforts.

One of the biggest criticisms of the last three years of previous coach Jim McElwain and staff was not enough impact skill position players were being brought to Gainesville. That looks like it’s already changing.

With a lot of talk around the state centered on “the U” being back and FSU’s Willie Taggart being a recruiting mastermind, the Gators are quietly assembling something special of their own in the Swamp, and maybe that’s just how they like it.

Jamil King is a young draft pick working his way up the depth chart on the F.F.I. roster, who enjoys watching and writing about all of Florida’s football teams.
