Florida Gator fans between Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer had such a string of success that it put so much pressure on whomever would be taking over the program. Obviously the previous success of Spurrier and Meyer sent Will Muschamp out of town, and brought in Jim McElwain into town.

After two season, the Gators won back to back SEC East championships. However those wins have been considered more of a result from a battle of attrition or mediocrity than dominance. The true measure of Gator success will come strictly from SEC Championships and National Championships.

After a much better than expected National Recruiting Day, it seems like things are starting to buzz again in Gainesville. How far are the Gators from getting back to the top?

Our friends over at Gator Sports Radio talk about the progress of the Florida football program under McElwain.

Born in the Nation’s Capital, Washington D.C., Ari Russell watched the rise of the 1980’s Miami Hurricanes and knew that he had to be part of the “U” someday. After graduating from Coral Gables, Ari rose through the ranks of the former XM Satellite Radio and then Sirius/XM as college football executive producer. He later spent 2 seasons as the publisher of the website “Beyond U Sports” focusing on major college football/basketball. Ari brings a great perspective on everything Miami, including the Dolphins to F.F.I.
