Not looking good in Gainesville this far into January for the Gators. It has been revealed today, that QB Luke Del Rio had shoulder surgery on Wednesday and as a result will miss all of spring camp.

The good news, if there is any, is that the surgery was on Del Rio’s left shoulder, which is his non-throwing hand. For Spring, Kyle Trask and Felipe Franks are the only two other scholarship QBs on the roster. Del Rio is a red shirt junior who went 5-1 in 2016, missing several games due to an assortment of injuries.

Now the question lies whether or not Del Rio is reliable enough to be the full time starer in the fall. It will depend on how the other two QBs perform and whether or not Del Rio can remain healthy. Obviously right now that has been a struggle.

Born in the Nation’s Capital, Washington D.C., Ari Russell watched the rise of the 1980’s Miami Hurricanes and knew that he had to be part of the “U” someday. After graduating from Coral Gables, Ari rose through the ranks of the former XM Satellite Radio and then Sirius/XM as college football executive producer. He later spent 2 seasons as the publisher of the website “Beyond U Sports” focusing on major college football/basketball. Ari brings a great perspective on everything Miami, including the Dolphins to F.F.I.
