For player of the year, it comes as no surprise that Louisville QB Lamar Jackson wins it for preseason. That said the surprise came as Mark Walton actually came in a close second. All of the the Miami players who were selected have been also nominated for positional awards too. Shaq Quarterman is up for three defensive awards, including the being named to the Butkus watch list earlier this week.

With the media picking Miami to win the Coastal division and with four players being named to first team preseason All-ACC, it’s clear that at least the media in the conference and the other power brokers are finally showing some respect for the program. Hopefully the national media will start following suit.
