The running backs took to the combine on Friday in what is considered probably the most popular combine event, the 40 yard dash. The results this year were interesting to say the least. One thing that stood out is that former USF RB Marlon Mack, actually had a faster 40 time compared to Leonard Fournette. Fournette is considered either the best or second best RB in the draft.

Mack’s 40 time was clocked in at 4.50, where Fournette was at 4.51. Former Florida State RB, Dalvin Cook ran a 4.49. Cook is battling Fournette for first RB taken in draft. At the combine he spoke about how’s he’s ready for the NFL.

Here’s the breakdown of the 40 times for the top RBs at the combine

1.TJ Logan – North Carolina 4.37

2.  Joe Williams – Utah 4.41

3. Tarik Cohen – North Carolina A&T 4.42

4. De’Angelo Henderson – Coastal Carolina 4.48

4. Christian McCaffrey – Stanford 4.48

4. Donnell Pumphrey – San Diego State 4.48

7. Dalvin Cook – Florida State – 4.49

7.  Jeremy McNichols – Boise State – 4.49

9.  Marlon Mack – South Florida – 4.50

10. Leonard Fournette – LSU – 4.51

10. Stanley Williams – Kentucky 4.51

12.Elijah McGuire – Louisiana-Lafayette 4.53

13. Brian Hill – Wyoming 4.54

14. Aaron Jones – UTEP 4.56

14. Alvin Kamara – Tennessee 4.56

You can see the difference between the 3rd RB speed to the 4th RB speed. It drops off quickly. Though TJ Logan scorched everyone at the 2017 combine, he didn’t break the RB record. Chris Johnson still holds the combine best at 4.24.
