Florida State star RB Dalvin Cook is looking to make school history on Saturday night in the Carrier Dome vs. the Syracuse Orange. Cook only needs 18 yards to break the all time record that has been held by the great Warrick Dunn. Dunn has 3,959 yards rushing in his career. The likelihood Cook breaks the record on Saturday is extremely high , but he also has a chance to eclipse the 4,000 yard mark as well. He will certainly do that this season. With only 1 more yard on Saturday, Cook will amass the second highest season total breaking the tie with Dunn as well. The single season record is already held by Cook.
As far as rushing TDs are concerned, he needs four more to tie Greg Allen who has 44 total.
When all is said and done Dalvin Cook is going to be the best running back in school history. That would be quite company considering, being with the likes of Dunn, Greg Allen, Travis Minor, Larry Key, Sammie Smith, Greg Jones, Lorenzo Booker, Devonta Freeman and Antone Smith.
In some draft projections, analysts have Cook as a first round pick. If he is selected in the first round he would join the likes of Warrick Dunn who was the 12th overall pick in 1997 by the Tampa Bay Bucs and Sammie Smith who was the 9th overall pick in 1989 by the Miami Dolphins.
The crazy part about it is that Cook would have done it all in only three seasons. He’s also been banged up quite a bit, but has toughed it out over the years. There’s little doubt that on Saturday Cook will break one record, the question really only remains will be by how much.
