As if the bizarre season for SEC East teams couldn’t get more complicated, the Florida Gators will be without starting QB Luke Del Rio as the team gets set to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. Gator head coach Jim McElwain made the announcement on Monday saying its a bad shoulder that will keep Del Rio on the sidelines. Backup QB Austin Appleby will take the majority of the first team snaps during the week. With that said coach McElwain said that freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask will also take snaps during practice and will be given a chance to compete for the job.
Del Rio, who hurt his shoulder in Florida’s 31-10 loss to Arkansas on Saturday. The loss tightened up the SEC East race and now without Del Rio, perhaps now, believe it or not, Kentucky has a shot to win the division. We don’t have a time table for Del Rio’s return, but this is a tough pill for Florida to swallow at such a critical point in the season.
