Doug Martin seen but not heard at Bucs opening to off season

The Buccaneers did something a little out of the ordinary with running back Doug Martin yesterday.

On the first day of offseason workouts, the Bucs did not make Martin available to the media, which is not out of the ordinary; but they did release some video of Martin working out, which is:

The video appears to support what general manager Jason Licht said Monday about Martin, which was nothing short of encouraging.

“(Martin) looks as good as I’ve seen him since I’ve been here – from a physical standpoint,’’ Licht said. “It looks like everything, the trajectory, is going up for him.’’

If that’s the case, then it’s obviously a big change from where Martin was just a couple months ago, when he was in rehab seeking help for a drug dependency issue he admitted to having last season.

But Martin still has a long way to go to get back to where he was with the Buccaneers prior to admitting he had the drug problem, and it seems he may have a short period of time to get there.

Licht indicated that Martin, who still has three games left to serve on the four-game suspension he received for violating the NFL’s PED policy, may have just a few days to prove he’s worth keeping around long-term.
