The Dolphins were in the running for the services of free agent DB Vontae Davis, but on Monday night he not only chose not to come home to South Florida, but instead picked AFC East rival Buffalo, as his new team.

The Bills announced the move on social media:

As we wrote Friday, the free agent Davis came to visit the Dolphins, who gave him his NFL start as a first round pick in 2009 before dealing him to the Colts in 2012. However, he had a falling out in Indy with Chuck Pagano and staff this past season about what he said was a groin injury that needed surgery.  He was eventually cut loose after the season and cleared waivers to make him a free agent.

He had been on a tour of several different NFL cities including Cleveland and San Francisco/Oakland trying to find a fit, and obviously, he liked Sean McDermott and staff the best. It is interesting that he only took a one year deal, obviously wanting to prove himself for 2018 and then maybe, cash end on a bigger deal later.

Davis is 29 years old and will help bring veteran presence to a young Bills secondary. Buffalo snapped the longest post season drought in professional sports, 18 years, by making the playoffs, as a Wildcard this past season.
