Speed to burn for Dolphins?

Florida Football Insiders

It’s not the only reason why the Dolphins are undefeated, but it is a significant one. As the football saying goes, you can’t teach or coach speed. Either you have it or you don’t, and certainly, when it comes to the Dolphins receiving corps, they have it.

And it was on full display in Sunday’s 28-20 win over the Raiders at Hard Rock stadium.

Whether it was Kenny Stills streaking behind the Oakland secondary for a 34 yard first-half touchdown catch, or Jakeem Grant racing past Raiders Defenders for both of his touchdowns, or new free agent acquisition Albert Wilson showing off his wheels in fourth quarter 74 yard catch and run, Miami definitely had “speed to burn.”

In fact it was a subject, playfully, on the NFL Network when Grant joined “NFL Up-to-the-Minute” with host Andrew Siciliano. Siciliano put the question to him about how much speed do dolphins have? And, about the highlight of Wilson’s touchdown catch were green caught up to him and high-fived him before he got to the goal line:

You have to also take into account that Grant is a big threat on kick returns. This includes his electrifying 101 yard kickoff return in week one against the Titans.

We have written previously about the Dolphins giving up on a franchise type receiver like Jarvis Landry. One of their criticisms was Landry was not a speed burner who could take away deep safeties and also burn you over the top for 60, 70 or 80 yards touchdowns.

Well, now it looks like with the addition of Wilson, who also threw Grant his 52 yard touchdown pass Sunday, to go along with Stills, Miami definitely has play-makers, who will make you pay if you don’t get in front of them and get them on the ground.

And with the New England defense, and secondary specifically, reeling, this weekend’s match-up in Foxboro has to be very appetizing for the Dolphin receivers to make some more big plays.
