With not a whole lot going right across the board for the Dolphins recently, one guy that you can point to who is more than getting it done is linebacker Kiko Alonso.
The latest example came Sunday in the 13 – 6 win over the Jets that pushed the Dolphins back above the .500 mark at 5 – 4.
Alonso finished with seven tackles and also this takeaway of Jets rookie Sam Darnold:

It was Alonso’s third interception of the season, and part of a four interception day by the Dolphins. Alonzo now leads NFL linebackers with three picks on the season.
The six-year linebacker out of Oregon, who is a former second round pick in 2013, is also the second leading tackler in the NFL with 83 of them to this point. That includes four double-digit tackling games with 15 stops coming against the Raiders back in September.
Alonzo has been a force in a line backing room that includes young players Raekwon McMillan, Jerome Baker and also Stephone Anthony.
Baker had the eventual game winning touchdown with his fourth quarter interception that he brought back 25 yards for the pick six.
Miami’s defense has been decent overall, but as we pointed out some of that is masked by the level of competition. For example, Houston and quarterback DeShaun Watson riddle them in a Thursday night loss two weeks ago.
The rookie Donald was nowhere close to that on Sunday at Hard Rock stadium. Still, you have to go out and make the plays which Alonso and his mates were able to do, effectively.
Now the hope for Coach Adam Gase, and defensive coordinator Matt Burke is that improved play will continue, starting with this week’s match-up in in Green Bay and one of the best dissectors of any defense in pro football, Aaron Rodgers.
That will be a significant upgrade in challenge from terrorizing a rookie (Darnold) twice this season for wins.
