There a lot of unknowns for the Dolphins as they get ready to begin the regular season, and that’s never a good thing when you’re trying to analyze fantasy football talent for your team.

And while guys like running Kenyan Drake, receiver Kenny Stills and even newly-acquired Danny Amendola should score some touchdowns, there’s really only one player worthy of consideration early in your fantasy draft.

And despite his ongoing recovery from ACL surgery, that player is: quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Granted it’s preseason but Tannehill has improved for the Dolphins over the last couple of games. And last Saturday night, he was effective against Baltimore’s starters. Tannehill went 11-16 overall for 115 yards and led the opening drive of the game scoring drive.

That drive culminated with hooking up with Amendola on a 16 yard catch and run TD. Then, later in the first quarter, he led a 62 yard scoring drive that resulted in a field goal and a 10-3 lead.

So, while none of this means very much for the regular season, it’s still a positive sign in his comeback.

Now, onto the fantasy draft implications.

Taking into account most fantasy football leagues that have at least 10 teams will start to run through quarterbacks by the 5th or the 6 round, Tannehill has to be your Dolphin to look at the earliest. In addition to Stills and Amendola, he also has new free agent receiver Albert Wilson and rookie tight end Mike Gesicki to throw to, especially in the red zone.

And as we’ve written, Tannehill has spent extra time with the Penn State rookie during training camp to work on their timing, his route running and everything involved in helping turn opportunity into touchdowns.

Yes, Drake is intriguing, but you don’t know at this point if he will split significant time with veteran Frank Gore, especially in goal line scoring situations. So, for fantasy purposes, he’s not worthy of a high pick.

And again, neither is Tannehill, per se’.

Still, if you are looking and are in need of a QB that will be scoring some and also has some mobility, repaired ACL or not, then Tannehill is a solid option.

And he’s the Dolphins best.
