We have been keep track of the Dolphins off season personnel loses and additions and one position on their depth chart remains a wide open mystery: kicker.
Earlier in free agency, the Fins risked it and the Bears gobbled up Miami’s 2017 kicker Cody Parkey with a lucrative deal. So, now Miami is on look for what will be their third different kicker to start a new season under coach Adam Gase.
We wrote previously, that former Noles/Raiders star kicker Sebastian Janikowski would have been an intriguing replacement, but once Oakland cut him loose, the Seahawks gobbled him up on a one year deal.
So, now with the draft rapidly approaching, the Dolphins are looking at their options and it appears that they are either seriously considering taking a kicker or want to give that appearance to anyone paying attention to their possible intentions.
The Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley got tipped off Monday night about the Dolphins special teams coordinator, Darren Rizzi’s dinner plans:
Dolphins special teams coach meets with draft's top kicker, who's a Miami native https://t.co/RAiUvcNllf

Clearly, Pineiro is a state product, and a Miami native, and he had a good college career at Florida. He made 17-18 FG’s during the Gators miserable season last year. And combined with his 21-25 year in 2016, he totaled an 88% field goal career mark.
We did take a humorous look at his leg strength prior to last season, when Pineiro’s practice video of him kicking an 81 yard field goal went viral on Youtube.
Now, even though the Dolphins are showing interest in him, it’s unlikely that Pineiro would be drafted before the seventh or maybe the sixth round. This is especially, after the Bucs fiasco with having drafted FSU’s kicker, Roberto Aguayo in the second round in 2016. And then, after a shaky rookie season, they cut Aguayo last August after the preseason opener.
There was a further update on Monday evening from a Sirius/XM host and Dolphins reporter, who has been plugged in on their off season moves and thinking:
Dolphins are also in on FAU Kicker Greg Joseph. Probably end up with one of the two in camp. https://t.co/I3gPimM6wY

And also, according to Beasley’s article, Rizzi has also met/worked out Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson, as well.
Are the Fins seriously considering a late round draft move for a kicker or just being thorough for after the draft?
We are about to find out.
