Free agent CB Vontae Davis to meet with Dolphins

As talked about earlier in the week whether free agent CB Vontae Davis will meet with the Dolphins we now have an answer to that question. It’s a clear yes, at least according to a source from Adam Schefter.
His free-agent tour continues: former Colts’ CB Vontae Davis visiting today with the Miami Dolphins, per source.

Davis was seemingly hurt by the initial trade from the Dolphins to the Colts back in 2012, but apparently he is willing to let time heal those wounds. It also helps that Jeff Ireland the man who orchestrated the trade is no longer with the Dolphins.
At this point the Dolphins are indeed in need of a corner back. Between injuries and diminished returns from players such as Alterraun Verner, it comes to no surprise to see the Dolphins pursue a veteran at the position.
That said is Davis still the same player he was when he played with the Dolphins the last time. Keep in mind he was released by the Colts after dealing with a groin injury. He is seemingly healthy right now however it’s reasonable to be at least somewhat concerned about whether the groin injury isn’t something that’s going to slow down Davis.
At 30 years old, he isn’t a young buck anymore but he isn’t exactly receiving a subscription to AARP magazine yet either. The fact that Davis is meeting with the Dolphins speaks to the situation from both sides. Davis obviously is willing to bury the hatchet and the Dolphins are showing that they are in the market for a veteran CB.
We won’t know until March when free agents are allowed to sign with teams whether this meeting had any actionable decisions attached to it. Either way it’s an interesting development. A healthy Vontae Davis can help the Dolphins defense immediately. He also met with the Bills earlier in the week, so keeping him away from divisional opponents would also be a good look.
