Eagles Ajayi gets final word on Dolphins trading him

One of the sub-plots throughout the Eagles run to their eventual Super Bowl Championship was the acquisition of RB Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins in a surprise trade in October. Clearly, Ajayi is getting the last laugh as he celebrated with his teammates and the Lombardi Trophy last night in Minneapolis.

Now, as we previously wrote, the Dolphins trading Ajayi served several purposes for them, including sending a message to the rest of the team about “buying in” to the team concepts/roles in the offense or else. And just because he had some explosive plays, including in Sunday night ‘s Super Bowl like his 26 yard run in the first half, it doesn’ t mean the Fins were wrong to trade him when/why they did.

Ajayi finished with 57 yards rushing on just nine carries for the evening. However, one thing that had to amuse Miami coach Adam Gase and staff, as well as Dolphins media and fans, was Ajayi on at least two occasions threw tremendous blocks to help protect QB Nick Foles against the blitz and make a completion deep down field.

That was a big criticism of Gase in general about the running backs early this season, as the Dolphins repeatedly floundered in pass protection and couldn’t score, etc.

As for Ajayi, he took to Instagram Monday to let everyone know how thrilled he was and even highlight “GASE” in a word he posted:

Obviously, Ajayi gets to gloat. After all, he’s holding the hardware.

Ajayi also posted on Twitter on Monday afternoon from the aftermath of the Sunday night celebration at U.S. Bank Stadium, while headed to the Philly post game party:

As Ajayi referenced, he is British born and excited about the game next October in London with the Jaguars. And, he and his team will be referred to as Super Bowl champions throughout next year.

Last laugh for him, indeed.
