Dolphins will trade DE Robert Quinn to Dallas

It had been rumored for a couple of weeks that the Miami Dolphins would look to move veteran defensive in Robert Quinn and that is now going to happen. And, it looks like Quinn picked out his destination with the Dallas Cowboys.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport had the story Thursday afternoon:

Dallas will apparently give Quinn a new one-year deal and it’s believed that Miami will be paying a portion his salary, much the same way they did to offload QB Ryan Tannehill in a trade to the Tennessee Titans.

As we wrote earlier this week, Quinn also was visiting the New Orleans Saints, but it was believed that the Cowboys were his first choice. Miami has been in need of more salary cap room and it made sense to deal Quinn and his $12 million price tag for 2019.

Quinn had 6.5 sacks playing in all 16 games a year ago for Miami, and the Dolphins already lost veteran and former Pro Bowl DE, Cam Wake, to free agency. Now, the new coaching staff with Brian Flores at the helm and Patrick Graham, as defensive coordinator, will have to adjust with what remains.

Still, another factor is the 2019 NFL draft is loaded with “Edge” rushers, and Miami could easily reload with one in the middle of the first round or in round two. The Dolphins already used a first-round pick two years ago on Missouri defensive end Charles Harris, who has greatly underachieved.

This will be Quinn’s third team in three seasons after the Fins acquired him last March from the L.A. Rams for a draft pick.
