After one lackluster season in Miami, Danny Amendola is a free agent once again. This after the Dolphins on Friday decided to release the veteran, whom they signed a year ago at this time, as a free agent from the New England Patriots

The move was first reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport:

Amendola came to the Dolphins as a veteran slot presents four former coach Adam Gase’s offense. However, he had only modest numbers of 59 catches for 575 yards and one touchdown as Miami went 7-9 and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

There had been some speculation in South Florida that with the Dolphins hiring former Patriots defensive play-caller Brian Flores as their new coach, and Flores bringing Chad O’Shea off the Patriots staff to be his offensive coordinator, that Amendola might be safe.

However, the 33 year old’s $6 million price tag appears to be two large the future plans that Miami has at receiver and with the salary cap.

Miami is also likely too soon rescind the 5th year contract option offer that they gave to fellow receiver DeVante Parker after his initial rookie deal. This means that the Fins will definitely be in the market for veteran help in free agency and potentially drafting a wide receive,  also.

It’s also very possible that Amendola could wind back up in New England, where he had spent the previous five seasons helping the Patriots win a couple of their Super Bowls. He also had the game-winning touchdown catch in the AFC title win two seasons ago against Jacksonville.
