Dolphins must wait another two weeks to hire Brian Flores

The New England Patriots thrilling 37 – 31 overtime win to advance to Super Bowl 53 Sunday night means the Miami Dolphins have to wait a couple of weeks longer for their head coach.
Brian Flores, the New England defensive play caller is expected to be named the Dolphins new boss, once the Patriots have been eliminated. However, that did not happen Sunday in Kansas City and it means under league rules on hiring coaches still playing in the post-season, Miami must wait.
We have written previously about the disadvantage this is putting the Fins and owner Stephen Ross, in terms of what kind of staff Flores can put together.
And so, the wait will continue. This after a wild fourth quarter that saw four lead changes, and eventually Kansas City tie the game at 31-31 with a field goal with only :08 remaining.
However, the Patriots won the overtime toss, took the first possession and marched right down the field with Brady converting three third-down passes to move them into position to end the game. And, running back Rex Burkhead did just that with a 2-yard touchdown here:

And, it put New England in the Super Bowl for the ninth time overall with Belichick and Brady in charge and the third time in a row.
Flores’ defense was tremendous in the first half silencing Mahomes and the Chiefs and shutting them out for a 14-0 lead. However, you knew that Andy Reid and his staff we’re going to make adjustments and Mahomes ended up leading four touchdown drives, as the Chiefs rallied.
The 37 year old Flores (shown pregame above) will eventually, become a first-time head coach after Super Bowl 53 in two weeks in Atlanta. That’s when his defense will take on Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and the Rams, who also won in overtime Sunday.
And, until then? Miami must do what they did during Sunday night’s dramatics: watch and wait.
