One thing we appreciate about Dolphins coach Adam Gase, with rare exception, you know exactly what he thinks and where he stands on an issue or player. And Wednesday in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine, he made it bluntly clear that when training camp and the preseason gets underway later this year, Miami’s QB will be….Ryan Tannehill.
There has been debate about what the Fins might do with possibly drafting a QB in the upcoming draft, and of course, there’s also the possibility of bringing veteran Jay Cutler back for one more year to run the offense.
Well, Gase made it clear that with Tannehill coming off ACL surgery, when he’s ready, he’s the guy.
Here are the coach’s full comments with the media in Indy:

The emphatic answer, “Ryan is going to be our starting quarterback,” stands out.
The head coach wants there to be no misinterpretation, but isn’t that what the off season is all about?
Just like a year ago, when the Bears signed free agent Mike Glennon away from his backup role with the Buccaneers and gave him a ton of money for 2017 and proclaimed him their starter. And then, promptly one month later drafted his replacement, Mitchell Trubisky with the second pick in the draft. The Bears are now releasing Glennon a year later.
And speaking of the Bears, new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains just became available after being let go with the other assistants there. And he and Gase obviously, worked with Jay Cutler together.
So, let’s not just close the door on Cutler re-signing at some point and being part of the plan for 2018.
And as for the draft, when asked Wednesday, being a quarterback coaching/play-calling head coach, as Gase is, he made another humorous admission, “I’d love to draft a quarterback every year.”
With the seventh overall pick, that speculation isn’t going away, either.
But at least on Wednesday, Gase made it clear to Dolphins fans, media, and everyone, Tannehill is the guy….. at least to start the season.
