The predictions have varied throughout the off season, on how good the Miami Dolphins will or won’t be in 2018. Believe it or not, not everyone thinks it’s going to be a dismal year in South Florida.

An example was this April predictor from Espn.com’s Mike Rodak, in which he had the Dolphins as a solid 8-8. It should be noted this was before the 2018 draft that included Minkah Fitzpatrick, Mike Gesicki and other young talent being brought to Miami to help bolster the roster.

A really positive look at 2018 came later in the summer from NFL Network analysts and former players, James Jones and Maurice Jones-Drew, who combined to predict the Dolphins schedule game by game and pegged Miami at 11 – 5:

You can see their reasoning for some of those wins, but most would say 11 of them is far fetched.

Then came Labor Day morning on the same NFL Network and their outstanding “Good Morning Football” show. Their panel kicked around the topic of “not sleeping on” something or someone in this upcoming season.

And that’s when co-host, Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, immediately went unprompted into his selection for “NFL Coach of the Year:”

Yes, you read and heard correctly, he has Adam Gase as his Coach of the Year for 2018.

There can be no question that with the Dolphins bringing back Ryan Tannehill after missing the entire season because of knee surgery, and deleting top players like Jarvis Landry and Ndamukong Suh, there are question marks for the Fins.

However, Miami has brought in a mix of veterans like Frank Gore, Robert Quinn, and Danny Amendola. Add those draft picks we mentioned above, and there is some reason for optimism.

However, we are not going to go so far as to agree with Schrager that Gase will be the best coach in all of the NFL.

Still Miami may end up a lot better than most think for this season.
