It was reported earlier in the day that Dolphins left tackle Branden Allen was cut by the team along with several other players. That was this morning. When the list of players who were officially cut came out at 4pm ET on Thursday, Albert was left off the list.
Right now he’s a Miami Dolphin. That could change. According to a league source told the Miami Herald that a few teams may have expressed interest in Allen.
This doesn’t mean that Allen will be in the Dolphins uniform in 2017, but it does change the news from earlier in the day. If a trade can’t be worked out by the speculated team or teams interested, Albert still will be cut by the team.
They ultimately save almost $9 million by doing so. Also, the longer they wait, they risk having to pay Albert a roster bonus coming soon. So he’s going to be gone one way or the other.
It’s expected then, that 2016 first round pick Larry Tunsil will move over to left tackle.
