The Miami Dolphins have promoted Matt Burke to Defensive Coordinator, replacing Vance Joseph who took the Denver Broncos job earlier in the week. Burke served as LBs coach in the 20016 season for the team.
Burke served under Joseph in Cincinnati for two seasons. According to head coach Adam Gase, this was an easy call.
“He knows this defense inside and out, him being with VJ for the amount of time that they were together in Cincinnati and then him coming along to the Dolphins last season was really big for us in that aspect. I really felt like we had two defensive coordinators on that side of the ball. We were very fortunate to be able to get him. He had plenty of opportunities to go other places and decided to come coach linebackers for us (and) was critical for our success this past season.”
The move should be a smooth transition for the defense as the continuity will remain the same.
