With training camp approaching for the Dolphins, two of the big questions will be: how much and when will the Dolphins pay Jarvis Landry?
We wrote previously, that Landry’s agent made the tactical move of publicizing that if there is not a long term deal by the time the regular season begins, that the negotiations will stop for the year. The Dolphins recently indicated that there’s not real urgency to get the former first round pick out of LSU a new deal any time soon.
The truth? It’s probably in the middle.
On Friday, Landry ventured to Bristol, CT, and ESPN’s studios, making the rounds on their debate shows, NFL programming and SportsCenter. Here he was discussing the decision to attend Dolphins OTAs without a new contract:
Next, on the “NFL Live” mid-afternoon program, Landry was a featured panelist on the 90 minute show addressing many subjects about the league. But, obviously, his contract deal is the biggest topic that Dolphin fans are anxious to hear about.
When asked where his contract status stands?:
“We’re trying to find a happy medium for both sides. Truly? I’ve left it in the hands of my agent.” “I don’t even want to touch it. I want to let my agent handle it all.”
On whether he’s competing with former LSU teammate, Odell Beckham Jr. on who gets their long term deal done first?:
“No. No. We’re not. We just want the best for each other…. Regardless of who signs it first or who signs the bigger deal, ….at the end of the day just seeing each other happy and getting what we both deserve is the best thing.”
The topic of next week’s start to training camp came up and what do you look forward to the most?:
“Just getting back around the guys. Having the opportunity to, you know, compete…..with that same goal of getting to the Super Bowl.” Landry added, “I’m not looking forward to the heat, though.”
Now, that is not something anyone would debate.
