It’s often said, “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.” Well, the Dolphins have put that axiom front and center after their 1-4 start has now turned into a five game win streak and put themselves firmly in the AFC playoff picture.
The Fins trail New England by two games in division (actually 2 1/2 because of the early season head to head loss) with six to play. It’s not likely that they will make up that deficit in the East up by they time both teams meet on January 1st at Hard Rock Stadium to end the regular season. We’ll see.
But, what’s undeniable is Miami’s two road wins over the Chargers and the Rams, have them in the seven spot for the AFC Wildcard and only one game back.
As we have mentioned, they will play the walking disaster 49ers at home this Sunday, and as long as the Dolphins don’t have a So Cal “hangover,” they will have a great to chance to be 7-4.
Here’s more good news: the Chiefs and the Broncos who currently occupy the two AFC Wild Card slots are 7-3 and play each other in Denver next Sunday night. So obviously, a Fins win next Sunday means they are tied with loser at Mile High for the final spot.
There will be five games remaining after next weekend. The last three are AFC East games, two at the Jets and the Bills, whom they’ve beaten and the previously mentioned finale’ with the Pats.
While, there’s lots of football to play, it’s not an exaggeration to say the Dolphins are worthy of playoff talk.
It’s actually accurate.
