All 32 NFL teams took the trip to Miami-Dade county to watch several former Miami Hurricanes vying to wow scouts at the Miami Pro Day. One player who has been deemed either 1 or 1A best TEs in the draft participated in the Pro Day. The one player is none other than David Njoku.
Njoku’s performance at the NFL Combine was pretty impressive, but not exactly eye opening, or at least what was expected going in. His Pro Day on the other hand was indeed impressive.
His vertical jump increased from 37.5 to 40 inches. His broad jump was just one inch short of his combine number, but still very solid considering his size.
At the combine, Njoku ran a 4.64 40 time. In the two times he ran at Pro Day this week, he ran a 4.62 and a 4.56. That’s a significant difference and shows the raw speed Njoku posses.
In the blocking drills, scouts said there were impressed with his strength and potential. His route running was admired by the scouts as well.
Now after shining in Pro Day, one would think that Njoku’s already high stock would raise even higher, however even a player of his potential can’t escape scrutiny. One concern, is that it appears that sometimes he may not give his best. In other words you can watch enough film on him and notice a little loafing going on. It may not be a major concern, but it did raise a few eyebrows.
No matter how you slice it, Njoku is a freak athlete who will be drafted in the first round. It’s still not clear if he will be drafted ahead of Alabama’s O.J. Howard, but his Pro Day didn’t hurt those prospects one bit.
