Bucs RB Doug Martin aiming to refocus for 2017

Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has emerged from the shadows. He seems to have anyway.

Martin posted this picture of himself along with an inspirational message on his Twitter account on Friday afternoon.

The photo as you can see shows Martin sitting in the middle of Boise States Albertson’s Field, looking toward the end zone.

We certainly don’t want to get psycho-analytical here but the indication is Martin is back and focused on football again. That would certainly be a good thing as Martin is coming of what had to be one of the most trying years of his life.

It was a year that started so well, with Martin signing a new five-year, $35.75 million contract last spring.

It was all downhill after that, though, as Martin tore up a hamstring in Week 2 at Arizona and never regained his 2015 Pro Bowl form.

Then came the four-game suspension for his violation of the NFL’s PED policy in late December and his admission to a drug dependency issue. Thus, voiding the guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

Martin has since been to and apparently completed a drug rehabilitation program and the word we get from the Bucs on him has been all good.

Martin has met with the team and it is expected that he’ll be back with the Bucs for the start of offseason workouts next Monday.

If so, it will be another positive step in the right direction for a player who has lost his way but still holds tremendous value for the Bucs, if he can get back on track.
