TAMPA – Ali Marpet’s transition from right guard to center hasn’t gone as smoothly as the Buccaneers were hoping it would.
In particular, Marpet has had a few rough moments with the most basic part of his new job, which is of course snapping the ball.
For the most part, though, the Bucs have been very pleased with Marpet’s play and they have no intentions of moving him back to where he was.
A look at this film session with former Bucs tight end and current college football analyst Anthony Becht will show you why.

Marpet brings a little more size to the position than former starting center Joe Hawley did. He also brings a lot more mobility.
It’s the latter skill set Becht breaks down here and in doing so you can see why the Bucs Marpet has the potential to be Pro Bowler in the middle.
Sure, Marpet has the ability to play at that level at right guard as well, but this breakdown shows why he can be truly special as a center.
Oh, and by the way, check out the play design not just on the Marpet play that Becht breaks down but on the pass plays he dissects as well.
As Becht points out, there are a lot of intricacies involved in both and those intricacies are put there by the play designer.
That play designer is head coach Dirk Koetter, who has come under scrutiny of late for what some believes is poor play-calling and play design.
Granted, we’re looking here at two plays that worked to perfection, but both are an example of why Koetter’s play calling and play design are two of the Bucs strengths, not weaknesses.
