Arguably the Bucs best defensive player a year ago, Jason Pierre-Paul was involved in an early morning single car crash Thursday in Broward County, but apparently, while being hospitalized briefly, was not seriously hurt.
TMZ broke the story Thursday night that the 30 year old Buccaneers defensive end had a wreck around 5 a.m. involving his SUV, and was taken to a local hospital later Thursday morning:

The gossip website further reported that Pierre-Paul was not speeding nor believed to have done anything illegal. Pierre-Paul had a passenger in the single-vehicle crash. That person’s identity and condition were not known. TMZ further reported that Pierre-paul was released from the hospital later on Thursday.
The Buccaneers confirmed through GM Jason Licht on Thursday night that Pierre-Paul had been in a car crash but his injuries were not considered serious and that they were looking into it more:
“We have been informed that Jason was involved in a one-car accident early this morning in South Florida in which he was not cited. We know that he was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. Our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of Jason and his passenger. We have been in contact with Jason and will be getting him further evaluated by our medical staff in the near future.”
Pierre-Paul was acquired in a trade from the New York Giants in March of 2018 for a mid-round draft pick. He had a fantastic season in the ninth year of his career.
JPP led Tampa Bay with 12.5 sacks, becoming the first Buccaneer to register double digits in sacks in a season since 2005. He had an additional 16 tackles-for-loss and 20 more quarterback hits. He was one of the most feared pass rushers in the NFC and was named as an alternate to the Pro Bowl despite the Bucs 5 – 11 record.
Pierre-Paul is about to enter the third of a four-year deal that has already paid him over $34 million. This season he is slated to make $14.9 million with more than half of that now having been guaranteed, as a roster bonus from back on March 17th.
Pierre-Paul came into the NFL as a number one draft pick of the New York Giants in 2010. And, he quickly made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro in his second season with a career-high 16.5 sacks, as the Giants went on to upset New England Patriots and win the Super Bowl.
Pierre-Paul was also famously injured in a fireworks accident in South Florida on July 4th of 2015 that cost him the total loss of one finger and part of another on his right hand. He has played with a protective glove on the hand at a very high level since the incident four seasons ago.
