Wednesday brought another controversy for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers off the field, and this time, it’s another former number 1 pick making headlines for the wrong reasons.
Vernon Hargreaves, the Bucs first round pick in 2016, appears to be shown on an Instagram post smoking some type of a cigarette, while mimicking rap lyrics.
Tampa Bay Times Reporter Gregg Auman was the first one to notice the social media chatter about the video on Wednesday morning:
A video posted to Instagram seems to show Bucs cornerback Vernon Hargreaves smoking a cigarette of unknown substance. Much like Odell Beckham last week, it raises questions for the former first-round pick. https://t.co/KKTfbw52Ep

As Auman lays out, there are important facts.
One, it does appear to be Hargreaves in the video, but the account was not the actual Vernon Hargreaves official one and it has since been deleted and the video with it.
Two, you can draw conclusions from what you see, but no one knows for sure what that cigarette is.
As of late morning Wednesday, Hargreaves, his agent nor the Buccaneers would comment about the video. Although the Buccaneers didn’t acknowledge they were aware of it.
Just Tuesday, head coach Dirk Koetter was talking at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando about Hargreaves and expectations for 2018 after he spent the final seven games last season out with a hamstring injury.
Now, a day later it’s the latest off the field headache for the Bucs coach who’s about to enter his third season.
Last season, it came to light the quarterback Jameis Winston was being accused by a female Uber driver in Arizona of having inappropriately touched her in March of 2016, while Winston was attending a Kurt Warner sponsored football camp.
As we wrote yesterday, the NFL is still quietly investigating, and the Buccaneers organization spent Tuesday defending Winston, while at the same time saying they had no clue as to when or how the NFL would rule.
Koetter also had to deal in 2016 with the four game suspension of his star running back Doug Martin for a performance-enhancing drug violation.
And earlier in the 2016 season Koetter and GM Jason Licht decided to release tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who Licht drafted in the second round in 2014, after he was arrested for DUI in Tampa.
This is not the first off season controversy involving a player smoking something on social media.
The Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham was also on a brief social media video with a woman smoking a cigarette of unknown substance. There is no word as to whether he’s being investigated for that by the NFL and a possible conduct policy violation.
We await more facts and details, but clearly as Hargreaves tries to make his way back into the starting lineup, if it is in fact him on the videoand there is going to be in NFL inquiry, none of that is good for him or Tampa Bay.
