The Bucs took a a day or so to get going, but clearly, are now buyers in free agency with their latest move Saturday afternoon. Tampa Bay agrees to bring in a recently released member of the Eagles defense.

ESPN.com’s Jenna Laine had the story first:

Curry was cut by the Eagles on Friday in a salary cap move on Friday. He was due to make $9 million this season, and had three sacks in 2017 for Philadelphia. The best output of his career was the 2014 season with nine sacks.

In a corresponding move, the Bucs have also released veteran defensive end Robert Ayers. Ayers signed a three year $19.5 million free agency deal in 2016. He was due to make $6 million this season with $1 million of that due guaranteed to him tomorrow.

Ayers reacted to being informed of his release on social media, while on a Disney Cruise Ship Saturday afternoon:

It’s been real Tampa… ✌?

Ayers never lived up to the veteran potential that the Bucs had hoped for in signing him away from the Giants. After posting 6.5 sacks in 2016, he had only two sacks last year. He also battled a high ankle sprain in 2016 and shoulder and concussion problems in 2017 and missed a total of eight games.

The Bucs have been trying to upgrade their pass rush so far this off season, as their 22 sacks in 2017 were the fewest in the NFL.

They have signed Curry’s Eagles teammate lineman Beau Allen and Chicago defensive tackle Mitch Unrein, also, trying to help compliment Pro Bowl tackle Gerald McCoy.
