It’s the Monday after. That’s the Monday after three of the craziest days of the off season, as every NFL team is trying recover and sort out the mayhem of theirs and every other team’s draft picks.
And similarly for fans, they are trying to make sense of it all, too. However, in a lot of cases, especially from the third round on, you don’t really know all of the players, and how much they can help, etc.
So, you rely on others who study and comment on this for a living.
Now, with one qualifier: no one has even practiced this summer, much less suited up and played a game in September, the analysts seem to agree: the Bucs had a great weekend.
Drafting Washington mammoth defensive tackle Vita Vea, speedy USC running back Ronald Jones, and a pair of DBs in the second round, has gotten people’s attention. So, too did drafting Division II offensive guard Alex Cappa out of Humboldt State in California. Cappa is drawing comparisons to former second round pick Ali Marpet out of a small school, but who shot up the draft board with his game tape and how he performed against D-1 players at the Senior Bowl in January.
That’s brings us to the comments, both spoken and written.
Let’s start first with a weekend addition of “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network from Arlington, TX. That’s where co-host and Fox Sports reporter, Peter Schrager hopped in the driver’s seat of the Buccaneers 2018 bandwagon already:

To clarify, that was from Saturday morning’s special edition of the show, and Schrager is obviously someone “plugged in” from working NFL games as a sideline reporter on Fox’s NFL coverage. What should concern Buccaneers fans is the “soft” comment/analysis from other teams. However, he liked the toughness brought from their draft.
Another analyst, who is one of the top NFL writers for CBSSports.com, is Pete Prisco. And, with the understanding that draft grades, off the cuff, are generally worth the paper they aren’t even printed on anymore, here was what Prisco wrote glowingly Sunday:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: A
They needed players on defense and they landed a bunch of talented guys who can help, thanks in part to a trade down in the first round. Defensive tackle Vita Vea gives them much needed bulk up front and they took some secondary players who will help. I really like the pick of corner Carlton Davis in the third. Second-round pick Ronald Jones will be a star. Watch out for this team next year.
Again, these guys are giving analysis almost “on the fly,” and it doesn’t mean a lot until the actual practices begin and then, games start.
However, if you are fan of the Pewter and Red, there are national talking and writing analysts, who like what GM Jason Licht and company did.
