TAMPA – Say what you will about that official kickoff to the 2017 season staged Thursday between the Patriots and Chiefs, today is Opening Day around the NFL.
It is most NFL cities anyway.
In Tampa and Miami, it will probably be another week at least before the Buccaneers, the Dolphins and all their fans and followers can really turn their attention back to football.
That point has certainly not been lost on Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, who sent out a message of hope and prayer to all those having to deal with the horrors of Hurricane Irma.

This is yet another example of who Jameis Winston really is. You can tell from the video that his emotions are real, that he truly cares about the fate of everyone impacted by the storm.
This doesn’t appear in any way to be some public affairs announcement Winston was coaxed into doing by the team or the NFL. Indeed, it looks as if he shot this video by himself from his own back yard.
Winston is fast proving to fans across the NFL that he’s a special talent as a quarterback. At the same times, he’s also proving to those that don’t know him that he’s a special person as well.
